Moonlight Hike
I just got back from a full-moon hike up Putney Mountain. It was gorgeous! Up there, it was still snow-covered, so the moonlight reflected, to really light up the place. I had never done that before and now I would highly recommend it. Tonight was especially nice. The weather was perfect - cool and clear. Just a word of advice though, do not wear summer socks - you know, those thin, quick-dry socks that are sooo nice to have in the summer, for a hike up a mountain in January, no matter how unseasonably warm it’s been. Your toes will get cold.
There was a big group hiking, my friend, Els, had her parents, so we had a whole Dutch contingency taking up the rear. We had two ladies in front, and me and Colin took the middle. It was nice. I had previously only hung out one-on-one with Colin one other time, and that was to watch our friend Alex play in town, so there wasn’t really much talking happening then. This was probably the first time we had a long conversation. It was nice. He told me about his current relationship and the challenges he was having with it. Sadly, but funny as well, by the end of the night, he found out he didn’t have to deal with the relationship (or lack thereof) anymore. Oh well. It’s the broken-heart bug. It’s going around.

I told you
Remember this?
Well, Catherine and I did it!

I was so nervous about it that I broke out in hives at about 1pm that night which kept me up until 3:30 am. The next morning, I got so energized the minute I saw Railroad Square with all the people there that it seemed as though I had slept through the whole night.
Mike M, Brad T, Arne J, Chris and Joanne S (for Krista) were the people from work. Jacob was MIA.
Cat and I were just jogging at a good pace. Both of us could still talk, so I don’t think neither of us was pushing hard until maybe the last 500 feet or so. That was about the time I got my side cramp. About halfway through, the fast ones started passing us, most of them looking like they were having a tough time, smiles were few and far between. Me and Cat, on the other hand, plus the elderly gentleman who ran with us for most of the way, we were cheering them on, and clapping, and laughing. Cat even said, “We sure are having more fun at this than those guys” (or something like that). To which I burst out laughing because she effectively said it right in their faces as they passed us.
Plus, my friends came to watch, early in the morning at 8am. That was really cool of them. And then we had brunch at Bob’s with mimosas. Afterwards, we proceeded to go to a swimming hole to cool off before heading off to Dario’s for a much deserved 4th of July BBQ. To end the day with a bang, we watched the fireworks show in Bratt, VT. I had to miss Kim’s lobster bake, but I’m sure she had plenty of friends to keep her occupied. ![]()

So, I met my goal, but I’m already not too happy about the results. I want to do better next year. There are a few more races I can do, but I haven’t been training, so that’s going to be tough. We’ll see.

Doubles
Happy father’s day to my dad, and also, happy 60th birthday.
I went up Mt. Monadnock for the first time this year with Glenn. We started up the trail at 7:30am and we took exactly 58 minutes going up with a 2 minute break. We stayed at the top around 15 minutes, and it took us exactly 58 minutes to get back down. 58/58, that gives me bragging rights, I think. We started early because it was going to be a hot day, and I had to be at church, and he had to be at his son’s graduation party. It was a good hike.

Falling Behind
I am falling WAAAAY behind on my training! I’m not even training at all now, it seems! Since last Sunday, I’ve only run once, and only 2 miles! Eeks!
Well, last weekend, I had to work practically the whole weekend, except for the time I went to Bob’s party, and the 1 hour each of running on Saturday and Sunday, plus the hour for church. Saturday, I slept at around 1:30, and woke up on Sunday morning at 8am to start working. Sunday night I worked until 1:00am, and couldn’t fall asleep until 2:30. The working part was okay, but in addition to that, I was also incredibly stressed about not finishing. Other people needed my work by Monday afternoon so that they could go to NYC and test it out on end users. By the time I went to bed Sunday, I still had a ton of work to do, so I was really, really nervous.
On Monday morning, I didn’t even take a coffee or a water break and just worked for 4 straight hours. I was done by 1:30 and was even able to pull off writing spiffy test procedure documents. After I was done, I showed it to my boss, who until now had only the vaguest idea of what I had been working on, and he got all excited and impressed at what I had done. Wednesday morning, during our team’s meeting, he even acknowledged me and the work I had done, and said that people should check it out. That got me all excited. Excited enough to work out that night. Monday and Tuesday nights I was way too tired to do anything after work. I couldn’t even go to sleep at a reasonable time, so I’m still up to now, running on reserves. But I plan to sleep an hour earlier tonight, so hopefully I’ll feel a little better tomorrow morning.
So, back to the training. It occurred to me that I will be doing a 5K on the 24th, a tough one at that, (heard there was a mile of uphill), with only a little over 2 weeks to go. Aaack! Panic-mode. So, tomorrow, watch me, I’ll be out running. Early. Watch.
