Match… ?
One of my friends has decided to put up a profile on Match . com. She’s pretty, smart, accomplished, etc. But, she just can’t seem to meet the right one. Story of my life, really, minus the pretty, smart, and accomplished bit. Anyway, she’s been trying to convince me to put up a profile for myself too, but I won’t. She lives in the city. I live in the sticks. If I put a profile up there, everyone’s going to know about it. I’ll be walking down Main St, and some random folk will honk their horn and go, “Hey, you’re on Match, right?”
But, out of curiosity, I wanted to see what kind of people are on it. So, I went and put in my zipcode. Well, it makes you log in first before you can see the profiles. So, not wanting to have any connection to the website, I created a fake email address. I could use one for junk mail anyway (sha right!). So, after 5 minutes, I was able to log in.
And I was actually quite surprised. The people who are there look normal. Some are even nice looking. They all say they just can’t seem to meet the right people. Even the girls are normal and nice looking. Heck, I even saw someone I know! And she’s both normal and nice looking.
But, nevertheless, I’m not going to put myself out there like that and not just because it’s a small town. Besides, I can’t exactly see myself going out with a stranger anyway - no matter how normal or nice looking they are. I’d be a nervous wreck. Oh well, I had an entertaining 30 minutes looking through the list. It’s always fun reading what people say about themselves. And here I am writing about it. Oh what a sad life I lead. ![]()

Blogroll mixtape
So, I did what Casey did before, making a mix based on his blogroll. Well, actually, I wanted to do the soundtrack of your life thing, but I thought it would be more fun to be thinking of songs for my friends rather than songs for my life. I’m not very good about listening to lyrics, so that would’ve been too hard for me anyway. This way, I could use songs that are linked to memories instead… and lyrics for some. I’ve added some songs about certain times of my life too, and I added two of my friends who are not on my blogroll, but made the list for a particular reason (in addition to the fact that I only have 6 on my blogroll, ha!). So… I’m sending you all a copy of it, but I’ll explain why I picked out the song for you here. Now? Hmm… maybe not now. I’m sleepy and it’s late. And I played bingo all night.
So, tomorrow. Maybe I’ll even get to send out my Christmas cards then! Hurrah for procrastination.

Merry Christmas
I just got back from Arizona, after spending Christmas with my family. It’s nice to be back, but every time I do, there’s an empty feeling that comes with it. It greets me as I walk in the door. I’ve gotten so used to living by myself and having things my way, that whenever I’m away and somewhere else, no matter who I’m with, there comes a point when I want to come back to here. But, when I do, it never fails, it’s never what I expect it to be. It’s not a big relief that I’m back. It’s more of a *shrug* here-we-go-again feeling. Oh well. I can’t win.
I did have a nice time with the family. We stuffed ourselves with food - both at home and in restaurants. Funny enough though, we had American cuisine at home - steaks, mashed potatoes, etc, and Asian cuisine elsewhere. We even had dimsum yesterday! Yum. I met new people - my sister’s friends and new friends my parents made. I saw new places - Sedona and some of Flagstaff, AND, I even got my sister to start jogging! Good stuff. I’m going to miss my mom and dad when they go back home.

Stooooopid hormones
Ugh. I get depressed about once a month, just about. Today is one of those days. Well, I need sleep too, which doesn’t help.
On the bright side, I’m getting my geek back. I’ve updated my Firefox and Thunderbird at work, and will do so at home as well. I love the new Firefox features - the session save, undo close tab, and the many, many add-ons! My favorite add-on right now is Map+. It’s friggin sweet.
Plus I’m really liking my Google page. I check it every now and then to look at the changes to the news.
But anyway, I hate hormones. Did I mention that already? Ugh.

My friends are geeks and they’re cool
Today I fixed my computer. Well, I say I, but I really meant Jacob, Ian, and Greg. I did bring it in, at least, and I did ask for help. I mean, come on, I did something!
My laptop’s power supply has been loose for a while. It started out that I just had to wiggle it until it hit a sweet spot and it would stay there for days if I didn’t move it. And then, it got progressively worse. Sometimes I’d have to hold it for a period of time before it would stick, but it would at least still stick. Well, lately, it hasn’t even been doing that. The last few times I used it, I had to be pushing it in and then wiggling it, and I had to do that constantly just to have it register power. Because of that, I haven’t been using my computer as much as I used to. Days would go by without me turning it on because it was just so frustrating to use.
TB suggested putting a toothpick in, and has constantly been on my case about getting a new computer. But, I didn’t want a new computer because aside from the power supply, mine’s still perfectly fine. And I couldn’t decide whether I wanted a PC or a Mac. Oh, yeah, and I don’t have the money for either.
So… last night, over dinner, not exactly sure why we started talking about computers, but I mentioned this thing about my computer. Jacob told me to bring it in and he and Ian would try to fix it. So I did, even though I didn’t really think anything could be done to it.
This afternoon, he brought it back up to me and said that he couldn’t get it to work, even with all the wiggling and stuff. So, I wouldn’t have been able to use it anymore. When I told him that it did actually used to work, he decided to take it apart again and to figure it out with Ian.
Sometime in the afternoon, after I had done what I needed to do for work, I came down to see what they were up to. At that point they were still trying to figure out what to do and what was wrong, etc. I was of absolutely no help at all, of course, although I was amazed at seeing my laptop all disassembled and in pieces. And then, they started about changing the power connector. I was still really skeptical about the whole thing, but I did get something they could use.
Off in the lab, Jacob asked Greg for help unsoldering the power connectors to switch them, when it just so happened that there was a demo of a desoldering gun in the other lab. So that’s where we went. Once the pieces were out, they found out that the board wasn’t in as good a shape as it should be, so that they couldn’t just simply solder the new power connector in. Greg had to do something special to it - connect two things together using bus wire or something like that. I’m not exactly sure what it was or what it was for. But once that was done, Jacob just then soldered the power connectors on the board and on the plug. Now there’s fancy blue heat shrink around the plug, fitted using a heat gun and everything! Oh, and he had to file it down to get it to fit back into the case too.
So… bottom line is, my computer’s fixed! I am so psyched! Yahoo!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You guys are the best! It made for a fun day at work too.
PS: I also have my own personalized Google page now! Sweet!

Hardy-har-har
I am cracking up every 2 minutes. I just looked at TB’s photo album, and happened to click on 2003. There’s really, really, REALLY stupid pictures of me up there.
They’re pretty funny though.
