I told you

Remember this?

Well, Catherine and I did it!

Before the race...

At race finish

I was so nervous about it that I broke out in hives at about 1pm that night which kept me up until 3:30 am. The next morning, I got so energized the minute I saw Railroad Square with all the people there that it seemed as though I had slept through the whole night.

Mike M, Brad T, Arne J, Chris and Joanne S (for Krista) were the people from work. Jacob was MIA.

Cat and I were just jogging at a good pace. Both of us could still talk, so I don’t think neither of us was pushing hard until maybe the last 500 feet or so. That was about the time I got my side cramp. About halfway through, the fast ones started passing us, most of them looking like they were having a tough time, smiles were few and far between. Me and Cat, on the other hand, plus the elderly gentleman who ran with us for most of the way, we were cheering them on, and clapping, and laughing. Cat even said, “We sure are having more fun at this than those guys” (or something like that). To which I burst out laughing because she effectively said it right in their faces as they passed us.

Plus, my friends came to watch, early in the morning at 8am. That was really cool of them. And then we had brunch at Bob’s with mimosas. Afterwards, we proceeded to go to a swimming hole to cool off before heading off to Dario’s for a much deserved 4th of July BBQ. To end the day with a bang, we watched the fireworks show in Bratt, VT. I had to miss Kim’s lobster bake, but I’m sure she had plenty of friends to keep her occupied. :)

Feasting!

So, I met my goal, but I’m already not too happy about the results. I want to do better next year. There are a few more races I can do, but I haven’t been training, so that’s going to be tough. We’ll see.
