Get Lost

Posted in General at 10:27 pm by D

I’ve gotten soooo addicted to Lost since my family watched the whole first season of it over the Christmas break. Since then, I hadn’t realized that they had already started the 2nd season. Thankfully, last week, they did a recap of Seasons 1 and 2, with another new episode after it. Casey, my good man, volunteered to make CDs for me with the first 9 episodes. I got the package last night. Thanks, dude!

Too bad, I’m probably going to be drinking a pill tonight to make myself sleep. I’ve been lying awake for 2 nights now, getting only 4-5 hours of sleep a night. I was so cranky this morning.

Can’t wait to get home and sleep (right at 10pm, after Lost)!

Marketing Ploy?

Posted in General at 5:59 pm by D

So, I attended a communications seminar back in October. It was a class in Assertive Communications for Women. They presented some techniques that I thought were good in theory, but would never work for me - either because I don’t think they’ll work, or, I can never see myself using those techniques, or, they are completely against my personality.

In any case, it was a good-ish seminar. For most of the morning, there was a lot of plug for resources that were available through their company, or through their affiliates, which I thought was too much of a marketing ploy. The afternoon though, was spent with a lot of discussions and role-playing, which were the most helpful.

So, in the end, it was up to us to incorporate the techniques they had presented to us in our day-to-day interactions. Needless to say, I had tried a few, but have long since discarded them or forgotten them. (I should really take another look at that workbook they gave us.)

My bottom line is, they keep sending me the same brochure for the same class (I think I’ve since gotten at least 3). It’s either a really bad marketing strategy (since they don’t keep track of who’s taken it), or a really intelligent marketing strategy (since they know I still need another seminar).

I just think it’s funny. When I got the brochure, I though, “How’d they know I still need help?”

What have I been up to?

Posted in General at 10:38 pm by D

1. Stalking my little sister. Well, not really stalking, but I’ve called them 3x without getting any return calls. So I dont’ know what the status is on my being a big sister.

2. I got myself involved with First Robotics. Like Glenn said, I just can’t say no. But anyway, it’s not that hard. It’s just mentoring the robotics programmers at the Keene High School. First actually provides them with a nice skeleton program that they just need to add to and edit. Plus there’s another electrical engineer, who knows a whole lot more about that kind of programming than I do, so I’m learning too. It just stinks that I had to look at code on a Saturday afternoon, and practically every evening this week. Anyway, it’ll be interesting.

3. I was supposed to go snowboarding today with Darrell and Manny. Darrell wanted to leave by 6:30, so I was up by 5:30. I had a slow breakfast, was about to get ready, when Darrell called to say that I should look outside. So I did, and it was snowing, but it was the wind that was incredible. Snow was swirling around and the treetops were swinging. So, we cancelled the trip. It would’ve been 10x worse up the mountain, or up a hill in my case. So, I had a lazy Sunday instead.

4. I will be getting back to blogging (hopefully), and will start moving my blog from one&one to yahoo. I got my server free for 3 years, but I think some time this year will be the end of that.

5. What else have I been doing? Oh yeah, I actually watched a football game on TV! I saw the Colts and the Steelers game. And I actually liked watching it. I couldn’t believe the Colts’ kickers actually missed the goal. It was like a movie! He could’ve forced overtime! But with that kind of pressure, I can imagine how one can miss, even if you’re supposedly the most accurate kicker in the NFL. I have no team, so I tend to go for the underdogs in any game.

6. Now I’m just going to do some more emailing, and then later I’ll try to finish the book I started last year, Anansi Boys. It’s pretty good!

Hey Boardman, this one’s for you. I figured it’ll be okay since you wrote these words: “I am at a point in my life now where I comfortable being me, and am relaxed and pretty confident most of the time.”

Here’s an ad that’s on major highways in Manila, Philippines. It’s a for a radio station called Mellow Touch, so the ad says “Everyone has a mellow side”.

Anyway, my mom said that whenever she sees that commercial, she remembers you. Pretty hilarious, yes?

Happy 27th birthday, T!

Whatever you say, I didn’t forget.

I’m back!

Posted in General at 1:24 am by D

I got back from the home country last Monday and had to go to work the very next day. Andy was in town and staying with me for the week, which helped a lot with homesickness, although driving back to Keene was still a little sad. There was snow on the ground, very few cars on the roads, and it was already dark at 4:00pm. When we got to the apartment, I was excited to exchange gifts and organize the things I had gotten from home, when I saw all the gifts lined up in front of my armoire. I had about 10+ presents to open from Andy’s family. I can’t even remember the last time I had that many presents to open up.

Anyway, so that was the day I got back. I’ve been pretty much a walking ghost since, until this weekend. My jetlag was so bad this time around. I had a really hard time trying to get any sleep, and an even harder time trying to stay awake at work. But this weekend, I was finally able to sleep in a little.

We hit the slopes yesterday for snowboarding. I tried to teach Andy what I remember from the lessons I took, and if he’s any indication of how well I taught, he was turning by the end of the day! Cool! As for the next time I bring someone new to snowboarding, I’d probably have them go through lessons. They’re only an 1.5 hours long, and they know what they’re doing better than I do. The conditions were great at Pat’s Peak, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back there unless I have to go late in the day. I still like Sunapee and Mt Snow the best.

Last night was spent toasting the New Year at a pool party at Bob’s with the Glenn and Els’s volleyball crew. It was fun, and I even put in 7 balls in 4 turns at pool. Sweet.

I just wanted to write a blog post, but didn’t really have anything in particular to write about. I guess I’m not in a blogging sort of mood yet. I have a lot of stories from home, and even have something written from the plane ride, but I don’t know when or if I’ll get to them. We’ll see. Anyway, I hope my blogging picks up soon. I found out that people I know actually read this.
