Food weekend (again!)

Posted in General at 12:27 am by D

I just realized that my last post was about game night at Daisy’s and Lydia’s. Now I was going to write about Easter dinner with them (again!). Man, we had so much food! Check out Daisy’s and Lydia’s posts for food details.

Anyway, it was fun preparing the food, and meeting their nice friends. I got totally lost with the French terms from Mic and Becky, and after consulting with my Ukrainian friend at work, I realized Vladimir, Daisy’s Ukrainian friend was joking about Easter being banned because of Communism. I suppose eastern european humor needs getting used to.

I went to Sunapee for the last skiing trip for the season. I’ll make sure to post about it tomorrow. It deserves its own post.

Fun times.

Fun, fun weekend

Posted in General at 6:20 pm by D

Yesss!!! The pictures are in! Thanks for putting them up, Lydia!

Had a blast this weekend. Sister was up from NY. Headed over to Daisy’s and Lydia’s for game and food night. We played Scrabble, Taboo, and Cranium (of course!). It would’ve been perfect if Lisa could’ve stayed for the whole night or if Casey’s SLF were there. That way we could’ve had 3 teams. But even with Casey playing on both teams, it was a lot of fun.

I think the best highlight was Casey as a girl:
(in his female voice that sounded more like there was something stuck in his throat) “I’m married to a cute Cuban guy and I have red hair.” What do you know, that was a Lucy Ball impersonation.

I was trying to think of highlights for each of us, but couldn’t come up with one for everyone aside from the ones Lydia’s already mentioned. I must’ve really been drunk that night. But given that no alcohol was consumed, it must’ve been the yummy, greasy, spanish almonds. Or the stinky cheese.

Sunday was spent shopping with my sister, and church at St. Cecilia’s. It was good to hear my old priest, and see people who used to go to St. Anne’s. Of course I didn’t know any of them, personally, but you know what I mean.

Filipino Ventriloquist

Posted in General at 12:19 am by D

Remember the ventriloquist in Big Fish? The one they shoved off the stage just before the twin singers? Well, he’s not Chinese. He was actually speaking in Filipino. Here’s what he was saying:

“I’m so tired. I’ve been talking here for so long. You don’t know how tired I am… I can feel the sweat behind my knees. You only think that’s sweat, that’s actually piss. ha-ha-ha”

Probably not word for word. I waited a while until writing it, so I don’t exactly remember. Anyway, that was weird. I wonder whether or not they actually told him to say things like that and act like a depressed ventriloquist.

Somebody said the ewoks in Star Wars were speaking in Filipino also. I still have to check that out.

1 week + one day since

Posted in General at 2:02 pm by D

Ahh… it’s been a while since my last post. That’s a good sign, I think. That means I’ve been busy, busy, busy!

I saw Something’s Gotta Give this weekend for the nth time. I noticed something new though, which is good. It’s always fun when you realize something new in a movie. Remember the scene where they were all in the bakery and the mom was speaking in French? The daughter said her mom took French lessons after the divorce, which was part of her keep busy and don’t look back plan. I like that plan and I think I’m on it. Why not when there’s so many things to learn. Of course, there’s never enough time or money to learn it all, but you just have to keep doing it.

I’m at a point where I want to do so many things but I never have the time to do it all. Actually, I probably do if I didn’t watch TV. But how can you get your R&R without it?

It’s been a while since I felt really lonely too. I hang out enough with people from Keene now that when I spend time by myself, I get to enjoy the things that I want to do - whether it be painting, or just watching tv, or screwing up a dish, or eating ice cream.

Man, I usually don’t eat ice cream at home, but since I started eating that Vanilla ice cream my mom asked me to buy for Christmas, I get these cravings for it sometimes. Of course, I put frozen berries so that it’s actually good for me. :)
I’ve got so many other things to write about, but they’ll have to wait. I’ll get to them at some point.

Google Answers

Posted in General at 5:25 pm by D

Has anybody tried this? One of my searches turned up an answer from Google Answers. Apparently, anybody can post a question for a fee, and get the answer within 24 hours. The price you pay depends on your question, and on the effort it would take for a ‘Researcher’ to answer your question.

Google supposedly employs 500 Researchers to answer questions. I’m guessing they just search the web too, although the one I saw was pretty detailed explanation + code, and the person who post the question even gave a $1.00 tip. So maybe these researchers really know their stuff too. The minimum fee is $2.50 and the maximum is $200.

I don’t know anyone who’s used this yet, so I thought I’d let you know, just in case you get desperate one of these days.

I have -1 risk!

Posted in General at 12:00 am by D

I took a Cardiac Arrest assessment today. It included a cholesterol screening, blood pressure and blood sugar reading, and an optional body fat reading but only with those handheld screeners.

My blood pressure was low, my body fat was 18%, which, according to them is on the low side for women my age. I thought it was high, because I remember my cousin in the navy was on a diet before to bring his to 7%. My bad cholesterol was high, but my good cholesterol was really high too. Apparently, they take the ratio of those, so my cholesterol index was on the low side too. My blood sugar was normal.

After the nurse was done with the screening, I was sent off to the lady who plugs in the numbers to get my risk assessment. As she was plugging in the values, some of my numbers were shown in red. Apparently they were too low. My bar graph was empty and my risk is -1! That’s got to be wrong. But, bottom line is, I’m in good shape. Now if only I can get on those machines and get an exercise regimen going. Oh well. Whatever. At least I try to park my car a little farther than I have to.

It’s a blustery day!

Posted in General at 12:56 am by D

Ever watched Winnie the Pooh? Remember the blustery day where Piglet was getting swept away by the wind?

That’s how today was. Just add blowing snow to that, and it would fit the description exactly.

It was cold, and icy, and raw. Or maybe I was raw. Whatever. It was a bad weather day. But perfect for crawling into bed. Woo! Sleep.

I got an early start today… a really early start

Posted in General at 11:32 pm by D

Last Saturday morning, I had to reset my alarm to 4:45am to prepare for a trip to Sunapee. I’ll talk about that more later. Back to the story, Sunday morning, I turned off the alarm and woke up at 9am. So last night, I set my alarm back to 6:30 and turned it on.

I slept extra late last night - 1:30am, but I thought that waking up at 6:30 would give me 5 hours at least, so I should be all right. When I woke up from the alarm, I was soooo tired. But my body was still sore from the ski trip, so I thought that was the reason. Eventually I was able to get myself off the bed to brush my teeth. Next was breakfast. Coffee… oatmeal in the bowl… hot water… start the coffee maker. Where’s my oatmeal? I know I opened the pack. The oatmeal was in the coffee filter. I was brewing oatmeal. That early I should’ve known something was amiss.

I carried on with getting ready for work. The only different thing was, on my way, I saw so many kids waiting for the bus. Normally, I’d just see the bus heading somewhere from school, empty. I thought, hmm… maybe the bus is late today.

When I got to the office, all the good parking spots were still available! Surprise, surprise! I usually have to take one of the the last spots and walk a little farther away than most because I come in a little later than most. I thought, hmm… maybe a lot of people took the week off for Spring break. But wasn’t spring break last week?

Turned on my computer and looked at my schedule. The clock said 7:30am! Woah! Was that right? Did we move the clocks already? Apparently, I set the alarm an hour early and didn’t even notice until I got to work! That was incredibly clueless of me considering I have a clock I ALWAYS look at and move from bathroom to bedroom while I’m getting ready so that it’s always in view. Oh well, I was thinking of keeping the time, but thinking about sleep makes me think I might just set it somewhere in the middle. It was kinda nice coming in early, but it made me waaaaay too exhausted by the end of the day. Hopefully I’ll get more sleep tonight.

Good Friends

Posted in General at 7:07 pm by D

The other day, CB wrote about having a one of those days day. I guess the experience differs from person to person but everybody seems to have gone through it at some point and in one way or another.

What was amazing to me is that he got quite a few comments on it - one from me, from TB, and from Daisy. It made me happy that the people who offered him support are my friends. That was so cool. I’ve got good friends!

Now if only I can have one of those days too and write about it so that they can give me their support too!!!

On second thought, I’d rather not. I was in a what seemed to be a perpetual-one-of-those-days days, like in the movie Groundhog Day except that everything changes but the mood. And there was no Bill Murray.
